Hamish Mackie

Hamish Mackie (b. 1973) is a British sculptor renowned for his dynamic animal sculptures. Rather than simply capturing their physical appearance, his work conveys their character, strength, movement and natural instincts. His deep understanding of anatomy, combined with a spontaneous approach to materials, gives his sculptures a remarkable sense of life and authenticity.

Mackie grew up on a farm in Cornwall, where his connection with nature and animals began at an early age. To study wildlife in its natural habitat, he has travelled extensively across Antarctica, Africa, Australia, India, the Falkland Islands and other parts of the world. Close observation of animals remains an essential part of his creative process.

His sculptures are primarily cast in bronze, but also in stainless steel, silver and occasionally gold. Produced in limited editions, each piece is signed, dated and numbered. Mackie’s works are held in public and private collections around the world.

Since 2007, he has lived and worked from his studio in Oxfordshire.
